My work is an intimate reflection of our inner worlds towards loving ourselves — I paint the emotions between who we are, who we hope to become, and who we are learning to love. Painting, for me, is a psychological tool: a slow, honest practice that helps me understand my identity and accept the raw, imperfect layers that make me whole.
Light and darkness play a central role in my work — both visually and emotionally. I begin each painting from black-and-white reference photos, building the piece gradually from the deepest shadows to the brightest highlights. Although the reference is monochrome, the colors are entirely my own. I replace the original hues with bolder, expressive palettes while carefully preserving the underlying values. This approach creates a visual language in which light and shadow convey mood, emotion and its own atmosphere.
Color, for me, is an emotional extension of the painting. Warm tones bring softness and tenderness, while cooler tones evoke tension, contrast, and an inner depth. Blues and oranges often emerge as complementary opposites that heighten each other’s intensity, while yellows and ochres carry me back to my warm Mediterranean roots.
